Seraj--One of the Biggest Turkish Buffets in Budapest

Clockwise, a chicken gyro (650 HUF), red lentil soup (450 HUF), pita bread (50ft.), Half potato salad and half chicken and vegetable salad (450 HUF), Iskander Kabob--gyro beef in tomato sauce atop cubed pita bread with dollops of yogurt and pickles (1400 HUF).

Seraj, located on the korut near Margit hid, is perhaps the longest Turkish buffett in Budapest featuring various meat dishes, salads, and a huge selection of baklava.

They will let you choose two half portions of salads instead of one regular portion and you'll want to do this so you can taste the wide variety of vegetables they combine.  Try one of their eggplant salads and get a half portion of fresh humus with a pita bread.  This is one of my favorite, choices for a quick, delicious meal.  The mayonnaise potato salad is nice and creamy (don't think about the calories) and the chicken breast mixed with zucchini, corn, peppers and carrots is bland but good.

They have a huge restaurant, expanded several years ago to accommodate the crowds of people who line up at meal times.

2011 Update: I originally wrote this article in 2010, but our frequent visits during our 3 month stay in 2011 proved little has changed...great food. This year I especially craved their salads...mmmm!
This is definitely the place for vegetarians to find healthy fare, and the gyros are still better than most of their competitors as far as less fat and more flavor. But you do occasionally get a greasy one...just drain off the grease and enjoy!
