Ride or Walk Across the Danube for a Scenic Treat

You don't need to spend a lot of money to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Danube River. Just take a bus or tram ride across one of the bridges or take tram 19 on the Buda side or tram 2 on the Pest side to enjoy different views of the River. And don't forget to cross after dark...it's quite an impressive view.

So often when running errands or returning from a late night meeting, my husband and I would comment about the Danube scenery and say, "I can't believe we live in this city and get to enjoy these sites on a regular basis!"

The Chain Bridge to the right is perhaps the most beautiful bridge in the city. Lion statues set it apart from the other bridges in Budapest.

The Five Main Bridges in the City Center of Budapest are listed below in the order they are found.

Margaret Bridge--Margit hid (1876)

Chain Bridge--Széchenyi hid (1849)

Elisabeth Bridge--Erzsébet híd (1964)

Liberty or Freedom Bridge--Szabadság híd (1896)

Petofi hid--Bridge named after Sandor Petofi (1937)

  1. I agree completely! We took the night boat tour one evening two weeks ago and it was great. They turn the boat around just below the Margaret Bridge and the view of Castle Hill and the Chain Bridge was breath taking. We also were treated to a fireworks display from the Pest side of the Chain Bridge. It was quite spectacular.
